“What will happen with her now?”
“She’s being held in the juvenile ward and
going through in-depth mental health
evaluation and treatment. If it was up to
me…” The orderly trailed off.
A tremor went though Doug’s heart as he
watched Gene wrench his hands as if he could
pull the life out of that girl.
“Are you surprised to see I feel a bit
aggressive towards her?” Gene asked with a
glint in his eyes—a demonic, almost demented
gleam.
Doug kept his shock to himself. He didn’t
answer.
“She’s the one that got in. She wasn’t
supposed to be here, yet here she is. As if
she’d developed a mind of her own and
controlled her environment and the people
around her to end up in this facility.”
Gene himself had to be insane, Doug thought.
Though Gene’s expression went back to its
former placid form, Doug couldn’t shake the
feeling that insanity brewed slowly under
that calm surface. Doug had misinterpreted
Gene’s mood swings and thought of them as
bickering.
